About This Project
Centaurus is a paid video research study. Using your own phone, you record a handful of short, selfie-style videos at home by following simple step-by-step instructions. The whole task takes under 10 minutes.
Open to adults 18+ recording themselves, and to children aged 5 to 17 recorded at home with a parent or guardian present. No prior experience required.
Why This Work Matters
Your videos support technology research, helping technology better understand real people, real faces, and everyday environments across different ages and settings. The more varied the people and places, the better that technology works for everyone.
Participation is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time.
What You’ll Record
- 2 videos indoors: natural, everyday settings
- 2 videos outdoors: regular environments around you
Each clip is about 15 seconds long. You’ll receive clear, guided instructions before you start.
Recording For A Child
Children aged 5 to 17 can take part too. A parent or guardian sets up the recording, stays present throughout, and provides consent before the child participates. The steps are exactly the same: you simply record your child instead of yourself, following the same simple guide.

- Get your instructions: receive clear recording guidelines
- Record the videos: capture 2 indoor and 2 outdoor selfie-style clips (record yourself, or your child with you present)
- Submit: upload the videos for review
- Get paid: your reward is issued once your submission is approved
Who This Is For
You’re eligible if you:

- Have a supported smartphone (see the list below)
- Are recording as an adult, or are a child aged 5 to 17 recorded with a parent or guardian present
- Have a parent or guardian to provide consent for any participant under 18
- Can follow simple written instructions
- Are comfortable recording short selfie-style videos
