Description:
OneForma is collaborating with a leading consumer technology company to gather indoor 3D spatial and visual data from real homes. This study involves a Centific moderator visiting furnished single-family homes, encompassing both single-floor and multi-floor layouts, to capture every floor using a pre-release mobile application on a handheld device. The primary goal of these recordings is to rigorously test and enhance the application’s performance, making accuracy and consistency paramount.
Indoor 3D home capture is the process of creating a three-dimensional digital model of a home’s interior using cameras, depth sensors, or a combination of both. The output is a comprehensive dataset that details the shape, size, and appearance of each room. As the device moves through the home, it records depth data (light pulses forming a “point cloud” of millions of 3D points mapping walls, floors, and furniture) and/or photographs (overlapping images stitched together by software). A steady hand and consistent pace directly influence the quality of the collected data.
As a Home Provider, you will not be filmed or recorded during this project. Only the interior of your home will be captured, and it is crucial that no people, pets, or children are present on the floor being recorded during the capture process. Before the capture begins, you will be asked to remove or cover any sensitive items, such as documents, mail, family photos, and screens displaying personal information, to ensure privacy.
Purpose:
This data collection is vital for advancing AI in spatial understanding and computer vision. By providing diverse and high-quality indoor 3D data, contributors directly help improve the accuracy and functionality of cutting-edge mobile applications. This work enables the development of more intuitive and effective technologies that can better understand and interact with real-world environments, ultimately benefiting users with enhanced digital experiences.
