Description:

During this new translation project, participants will work on strings coming from messaging apps. The source may exhibit a wide range of different linguistic styles, which may include use of ungrammatical text, informal tone, slang, abbreviations, etc. For each source string, translators must provide 2 translations following 2 different criteria/set of instructions.

 

Purpose: 

Thanks to this project, we will help improve automatic translations in conversational environments.

Main requirements:

  • Must have access to a laptop and a good internet connection.
  • Ideally, a linguistic background would be a plus.
  • Must have a very high level of English.
  • Must be a native (or have a high-level proficiency) of one of the languages specified below (in bold) and must be able to translate into one of the others:
    • Arabic > English (US)
    • German > English (US), Spanish (ES), French (FR) or Italian.
    • English (US) > Arabic, German, Spanish (ES), French (FR), Italian or Portuguese (BR).
    • Spanish (ES) > German, English (US), French (FR), Italian or Portuguese (BR).
    • French (FR) > Arabic, German, English (US), Spanish (ES) or Italian (BR).
    • Italian > German, English (US), Spanish (ES) or French (FR).
    • Portuguese (BR) > English (US) or Spanish (ES).

Other important information: 

  • The project takes place on our online platform. Instructions and guidelines will be provided.
  • Although not necessary, it is preferable to have some linguistic or translation experience for this project.
  • We offer flexible schedule, although a minimum amount of hours will be expected.
